Summer School 2024 - Week 2 - Blue Jay Class

Hello, Blue Jay friends and families!

Our Summer Week 2 was  packed with lots of activities and games. Throughout the week, we had been 'Awesome Painters' like Picasso and Van Gogh exploring their renowned paintings. Our Blue Jay friends have shown their own creativity, imagination and uniqueness through their own representations of their artworks.

Morning and Afternoon Meeting

Our morning meetings throughout the week were filled with music and movement as our friends learned to get together and dance harmoniously with others. Some of their favorite songs were 'Old MacDonald had a Farm' and 'The Monkey Dance'. We even came up with a new class job ' Dance Helper' as suggested by our friends wherein they could choose a dance and a 'Goodbye Helper' for our class.  Our friends were truly creative! In addition, aside from singing our days of the week and weather song, we also looked into how everyone was feeling each day.

For our afternoon meetings, we would recall what we had done for the day, read storybooks such as 'Under the Sea' and 'Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can you?' and sing our goodbye song.

Topic Exploration Time
Each day we discovered different artists and styles of painting. We wandered on the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry, Starry Night and Sunflowers, Picasso's Face Art Painting, Pointillism or Dot painting, Tape Resist Art Painting, and Kandinsky's Circles in a Circle. Each child has shown their own uniqueness and creativity as they made their own representation and understanding of art.  Here are some of their best time in class:

For Language Time
Since children learn best through play, our language activities centred mostly on phonics games that involved movement and play. We focused on Jolly Phonics Group 1 and 2 letters for this week through activities like I Spy, hunting games, sensorial sand, and stamping games. Learning phonics and seeing the eagerness in their eyes were truly a bliss to watch in the classroom!
